Our monthly list of Top 10 Events has been altered to ensure everyone can experience Dutchess’ exciting happenings – both virtual and in-person (while maintaining social distancing to keep everyone safe)!

1. Kaatsbaan Cultural Park’s Summer Festival 2020

Weekends starting August 1 at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park

Join Kaatsbaan Cultural Park’s first Summer Festival with performances of dance and art taking place over nine consecutive weekends to celebrate its local and artistic communities. Guests can enjoy performances with over 40 acclaimed dance artists and marvel at the outdoor art and film installations. To ensure social distancing and safety protocols, this event will be held outside on the expansive 153-acre property. The festival will also be presented on the organization's social media platforms and YouTube channel as well as on participating artist’s social media for worldwide access and inclusion. Advanced registration is required to attend the event in person, as there are a limited number of reserved spots for each performance.

2. Howland Cultural Center 2020 Member Art Show

Weekends starting August 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Howland Cultural Center

Visit the Howland Cultural Center for their first live art exhibit since March! This FREE art show will feature works from their member artists - over 35! - with pieces for sale. Their limited hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. until August 30th. Visitors are required to wear masks. For more information click here.

3. Sunset Yoga at The O Zone

Thursdays starting August 6 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm at The O Zone

After a busy week, take a moment for yourself to stretch while listening to bullfrogs and enjoying a calming sunset at The O Zone on Greig Farm. Join them every Thursday starting August 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. All levels are welcome, please bring your own mat. Looking for more outdoor yoga? Enjoy farm fresh air with Yoga on the Farm at Fishkill Farms every Saturday morning in August!

4. Barton Orchards 2nd Annual Sunflower Festival

August 7 - 9, August 14 - 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Barton Orchards

Don’t miss one of the most photographed events of the year! Purchase your ticket to Barton Orchards 2nd Annual Sunflower Festival for a day full of live music, craft beverages, fresh cider donuts, and local craft vendors! Admission tickets include access to a family-friendly park, petting zoo, and to the-pick-your own fields! Plus a hayride to the five-acre field of sunflowers for the perfect photo op. You can also take home some fresh flowers by purchasing a ticket with a bucket online. Tickets are limited and will be sold online with assigned times for check-in in order to keep lines down, control the influx of people, and allow for social distancing. Purchase here.

5. Up in One Production Presents “A Chorus Line”

August 7-9, 14-16 at 7:00 p.m. at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck

Up in One Productions presents one of the most iconic musicals of all time, “A Chorus Line” at The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck. This Tony Award-winning musical captures the heart and tension of a Broadway chorus audition as 17 dancers compete for a spot in a chorus line. This family-friendly show will be presented on their new outdoor stage! Tickets will only be available online and will be general admission. Guests can choose their spot on the grand lawn to view the stage on a first-come first-serve basis. You’re welcome to bring a picnic blanket, lawn chairs and snacks to enjoy during the show! 6. Staatsburgh State Historic Site Presents - Programs on the Portico: Staatsburgh Servants

Sunday, August 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Staatsburgh State Historic Site

Even though tours of the Gilded Age mansion are not occuring, you can still learn about Staatsburgh history right on the portico! Join this free, 30 minute presentation on Staatsburgh Servants, where you’ll learn about what their lives were like at the mansion, discuss the advantages of living with the Staatsburgh family, and the sacrifices they made. The staff will also display some of the artifacts that were used by the servants, as well as reproductions of their uniforms. Book your ticket here. Looking for more outdoor historical events? 7. Arts Mid-Hudson Presents  Look Back In Wonder Virtual Art Brunch

Sunday, August 16 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the Arts Mid-Hudson Facebook page

Join this FREE online exhibit, Look Back in Wonder - hosted by Arts Mid-Hudson and curated by Elisa Pritzker and Greg Slick - featuring nearly 30 local artists. This virtual experience will reflect on the constant human quest through time and how artists respond to it. Whether personal, social or anthropological, the artists’ approach to the past through various media has one thing in common: who are we and where do we come from? Register here.

8. Time to Dine in the Hudson Valley

Monday, August 17 through Sunday, August 30

Now’s the TIME TO DINE Dutchess County! As the summer winds down, Valley Table created the Time to Dine initiative to show our local restaurants support since the 2020 Spring Hudson Valley Restaurant Week was postponed back in March. This special 2-week culinary event will showcase a variety of local restaurants offering specials and promotions. Some restaurants you can try in Dutchess include Shadows on the Hudson, Gigi Trattoria, The Pandorica and more! See a full list of participating restaurants here. Whether you choose to dine-in or dine-out, it’s important to patronize small businesses, especially during times like these.

 

9. Record Store Day 2020 at Darkside Records

Saturday, August 26 at Darkside Records

Even though Record Store Day will look very different this year, supporting indie record stores is more important now than ever before. Since 2008, this annual celebration has grown into the world’s largest single-day music event, shining a light on the indie culture record stores across the globe. This year RSD is focusing on the music with three curated releases of music happening at local record stores. Stop by Darkside Records in Poughkeepsie to get your hands on these really great titles! All items will be on a first-come first-serve basis. The official list of available inventory will be released the night before on Record Store Day’s facebook.

10. Outdoor Concerts

From parkside picnic concerts with the family to jazz music on the vineyard, there are so many ways to enjoy outdoor live music this summer in Dutchess County (while maintaining social distance). Check out our latest spotlight here.
