It’s National Pizza Day, and we’re celebrating with some of the tastiest pizza in Dutchess County! Read on for where to find pub pies, Detroit-style pizza, wood-fired Neapolitan pies and classic New York style slices.

Emiliano’s, Poughkeepsie

Situated on Main Street in Poughkeepsie right near the MJN Convention Center and Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel, locals have frequented Emiliano’s for nearly three decades. Stop in this old-school New York pizza joint for loaded slices, calzones, strombolis, stuffed pizza and pies with gluten-free crust. In fact, the mouthwatering cuisine and memorable atmosphere drew HBO to shoot scenes for an episode of High Maintenance at Emiliano’s.

Lolitas mushroom pizza

Lolita’s Pizza, Poughkeepsie

Sister restaurant to Lola’s, Lolita’s serves artisanal Neapolitan pies steps away from the Walkway Over the Hudson. Take a stroll 212 feet above the mighty Hudson River, then grab a table inside for a truly nourishing meal.  High-quality ingredients elevate simple flavor combinations to new foodie heights—like the “New Yorker”, which tops a tomato sauce pie with a blend of asiago, mozzarella, parmesan and caciocavallo cheese. Any pizza aficionado needs to sample a wood-fired white pie topped with absurdly creamy taleggio cheese (currently available on the mushroom pie, which also sports truffled pecorino cheese, bright fontina and scallions.) Don’t forget to pair a pie with their legendary kale caesar salad and a local craft beer.

Pizza going into wood burning oven at Pizzeria Posto

Pizzeria Posto, Rhinebeck and Eastdale Village

If extraordinary wood-fired pizza is your thing, be sure to experience culinary excellence at Pizzeria Posto. This Rhinebeck establishment received national acclaim for its elegant eats. Now, visitors can choose between dining at the original Northern Dutchess restaurant or taking a break from a day of shopping at the Eastdale Village Town Center in Poughkeepsie. Favorites include the “Mamma Mia,” a sauceless pie with smoked mozzarella, fennel sausage and wood-roasted onions and the “Marino,” a classic red pie topped with soppressata and Gaeta olives.

Florina’s Woodburning Pizza, Fishkill

This jack-of-all-trades woodburning pizzeria is a great place to fuel up for a long walk or ride at the nearby (William R. Steinhaus) Dutchess Rail Trail. Whether you’re a fan of ultra thin-crust pizza or prefer doughy New York City-style slices, Florina’s delivers. Creative menu highlights include lasagna pizza, Philly cheesesteak pizza and shrimp scampi on a thin-crust square pie.

Hudson and Packard Detroit Pizza

Hudson and Packard, Poughkeepsie

Have you tried Detroit-style pizza before? The thicker-crust square pan pizza resembles focaccia and boasts delicious toppings and ingredients. Michigan-born Charlie Webb graduated from The Culinary Institute in America in Hyde Park and opened Hudson and Packard in 2020, sharing this unique take on a classic dish with the Hudson Valley. Photogenic cuts range from the sweet and spicy Hudson Hornet (Mike’s Hot Honey, pepperoni, house-pickled jalapenos) to the colorful PYT (heirloom cherry tomato relish, red pepper relish, basil pesto), with plenty of over-the-top specials to try. Plus, they won second place at the International Pizza Expo.

Tiramisu’s, Hopewell Junction

Even closer to the Dutchess Rail Trail, Tiramisu’s supplies local families and visitors alike with a friendly atmosphere for delicious pizza. It’s an excellent spot for visitors with a sweet tooth, as their bakery produces beautiful Italian desserts like rainbow cookies, cannolis and, of course, tiramisu.
