Top 10 Dutchess Events in March

From unforgettable performances and art exhibitions to history lectures and farm experiences, there are a lot of interesting and exciting events scheduled for March here in Dutchess County. In fact, this is a perfect time to visit!  

Use this list of our Top 10 March Events to help plan your trip to the heart of New York's Hudson Valley, where there is fun for everyone year-round.

Of course, March in the Hudson Valley is maple season, several Dutchess producers have some fantastic events lined up for the New York State Maple Weekends (March 22–23 and 29–30). Click here for all the sweet details.

Tours and Tastings at Tenmile Distillery 

Thursdays through Sundays at Tenmile Distillery, Wassaic 

Tenmile Distillery uses locally sourced ingredients to craft its high-quality spirits, which include Little Rest Single-Malt American Whisky, Listening Rock Gin, and Sinpatch Vodka. You can sample these fine potables and see how they’re made, as tours and tastings are available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. While you’re there, be sure to check out Dutchess Tourism’s Commander in Cheers promotion, an augmented reality experience that serves up a pint-sized George Washington to share a story about one of Dutchess County’s heroic endeavors during the Revolutionary War. Getting to Tenmile Distillery is a breeze, even without a car; the Tenmile River station on the Metro-North Harlem Line is right across the street from the distillery, so you can hop on the train at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan and be sipping a Manhattan about two hours later!

The Orchestra Now and the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company Perform

Saturday, March 1, 7:30 p.m., in the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson

Two of New York’s finest artistic training programs have teamed up to present an unforgettable night of song and dance, as the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company performs alongside The Orchestra Now, Bard College's graduate program that is training the next generation of music professionals. Enjoy works by Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, Kevin McKenzie, and others with music by Verdi, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and many more. Plus, premium tickets for the March 1 show include prime orchestra seats for the performance followed by an intimate dinner with the dancers at Blithewood.


Author Talk and Book Signing with Aaliyah Bilal

Tuesday, March 4, 12:30 p.m. at The James & Betty Hall Theatre, Dutchess Community College, Poughkeepsie

DCC welcomes author Aaliyah Bilal, whose debut short-story collection, "Temple Folk," was a finalist for the 2023 National Book Award for Fiction. A collection of 10 stories, "Temple Folk" explores the lives of Black Muslims in America in the 1970s, examining their experiences with race, religion, economics, politics, and sexuality. The book paints a picture of a community resisting mainstream culture while navigating the expectations placed upon them.

Trout Unlimited Hosts Fly-Tying Workshop

Saturday, March 8, 12 p.m., at Plan Bee Farm Brewery, Poughkeepsie

Dream about the upcoming fishing season and enjoy a mug of Plan Bee Farm Brewery's famous Barn Beer as the experts from Mid-Hudson Trout Unlimited walk you step by step through this fly-tying workshop. Whether you've been fishing all your life or you're brand-new to the sport, this workshop will show you the fly-tying tips and tricks that will have you reeling in the big ones this season!

Sunrise Stroll Over the Hudson 

Thursday, March 20, 6:30 a.m., at the Walkway Over the Hudson, Poughkeepsie 

Enjoy breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the surrounding highlands as you welcome the new season at the World’s Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge. Every year on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, the sun rises in line with the Walkway deck, making for spectacular photo opportunities from 212 feet above the river. The gates at either end of the Walkway will open early for this free event. Click here for details on elevator access to the Walkway at Upper Landing Park in Poughkeepsie. The 1.25-mile Walkway is a repurposed railroad bridge that opened 1889. It originally formed part of the Maybrook Railroad Line of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. It was taken out of service in 1974 after being damaged by fire. It was reopened in 2009 as a pedestrian walkway and forms part of the Empire State Trail, a 750-mile trail used by thousands of hikers and bicyclists every year.

"Mindfulness with Horses" Women's Retreat 

March 20–23 at 13 Hands Equine Rescue, Clinton Corners 

This women's retreat is designed to help you reconnect with yourself, cultivate compassion, and step into your life with power and authenticity. You will learn mindfulness practices supported by the grounding presence of the horses. The herd at 13 Hands features a diverse array of more than 200 horses of all sizes and breeds, including horses that have been abandoned, abused or neglected. With the support of this incredible herd, you’ll experience connection and communication using your body language, breath, energy and intention. You’ll create relationships beyond words and without judgment.


Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail

Friday, March 21, 6 p.m., at Lasting Joy Brewery, Tivoli

The popular Dutchess County Historic Tavern Trail brings history and local cuisine together with its monthly events at iconic restaurants and tap rooms. Dutchess County Historian Will Tatum kicks off the 2025 series at Lasting Joy Brewery with a discussion titled "New York and Dutchess County on the Brink of Revolution," which will examine what life was like in the Hudson Valley during the volatile and uncertain time before the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" was fired on April 19, 1775, in Lexington, Mass., at the outset of the Revolutionary War. The 2025 Tavern Trail series will focus on the "Real Time Revolution" theme of tracing developments in Dutchess County during 1775.

"Daisy Suckley: A Life of One's Own" Tea Seminar

Saturday, March 22, 2 p.m., at Wilderstein Historic Site, Rhinebeck

Join Mary Mistler, author of "Ladies of the Valley," for a Women's History Month talk examining the extraordinary life of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, a cousin and confidant of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Inspired by the tradition of stimulating teatime conversation, this event will feature tea and light refreshments to enjoy during the lecture, during which participants can ask questions and share their thoughts. Copies of "Ladies of the Valley" will be available for purchase and signing.


Mid-Hudson Reptile Expo

Sunday, March 23, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the MJN Convention Center, Poughkeepsie

Are you in the market for a new pet of the creepy, crawly, slimy or slithery variety? Then this is the event for you! Check out over 150 vendor tables full of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and more, along with all the products, supplies and expert advice you'll need for your new friend.


Movie Thyme Presents "Beauty and the Beast"

Sunday and Monday, March 30 and 31, at Flores Restaurant & Bar, Wappingers Falls

Movie Thyme combines world-class cuisine and blockbuster films to create a unique and immersive dinner-and-a-movie experience. As you watch the film, you will enjoy a delicious five-course meal with dishes inspired by the movie on the screen. This Movie Thyme event at Flores Restaurant & Bar features the Disney animated classic "Beauty and the Beast" and includes five dinner courses and two mocktails served at strategic points in the movie. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available. Adults and kids alike will love this "tale as old as time." Tickets are selling quickly, so don't wait!

"Realism on the Hudson" Art Exhibition and Sale

March 1–April 13, at the Howland Cultural Center, Beacon

The American Artists Professional League's third annual Realism Show will feature nearly 100 juried entries displayed in the Howland Cultural Center's stunning Northcutt Hall Gallery, with each work measuring no larger than 20 inches by 20 inches. Artists from all over the United States will display their mastery of realism across multiple genres and in a variety of media. Meet the artists and mingle with fellow art lovers at the opening reception on March 1 from 1–3 p.m. Catch a still-life painting demonstration with artist Brian McClear on March 22 from 1–3 p.m. And the best part? As with all AAPL exhibitions, the works on display will be available for sale! Whether you're a seasoned collector or a first-time art buyer, this is your chance to own a piece of exceptional American realism.
