Last Chance for Reservations for Mother's Day Teas at Clermont and at St. James' Episcopal Church
Why not plan to take you mom or someone special to enjoy a Mother’s Day Tea this year? Here are two from which to choose, one in Hyde Park and one in Germantown (the vast Clermont estate is in both Dutchess & Columbia Counties!). It’s a memorable way to thank someone you love on Mother’s Day, which is observed on Sunday, May 14th in 2017.
Mother’s Day Tea Party at St. James’ Episcopal Church
Everyone is invited to celebrate this special day at an elegant Mother’s Day Tea Party, presented on Saturday, May 13 at St. James’ Episcopal Church in Hyde Park.
Bring your mother, sister, daughter or best friend to this four-course luncheon and tea party, featuring a traditional menu of delectable home-made treats. At 2:15 pm, guests will be treated to a visit by Suffragette Margaret Lewis Norrie. (New York State was once again ahead of the curb in giving women the right to vote in 1917, three years before the 19th Amendment was ratified!) There are two seatings, one at 12 pm and the next at 3 pm. Seating is limited and reservations are required. The cost is $25 per person. Please call 845-229-2820 for reservation information.
Special gift items for Mother’s Day will be available for purchase. Proceeds from this event will be used by the Outreach Committee to provide holiday meals and gifts for needy families in the Hyde Park area.
St. James’ Episcopal Church is the church of Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt, where FDR was the Warden. His mother, Sara Delano Roosevelt, is buried in their cemetery. It’s located at 4526 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, NY 12538
Clermont’s popular Mother’s Day Tea & Tour
Reservations are now open for Clermont State Historic Site’s popular Mother’s Day Tea, taking place on Sunday, May 14. The Tea begins at 1 pm with a tour of the historic gardens before settling down among the fragrant blossoms for piles of dainty pastel desserts and cucumber sandwiches. Tickets are just $18, free for children under 5. Reservations are required, as this event does fill up, by calling (518) 537-4240.
The program begins with a special Mother’s Day Tour, telling the story of the last beloved matriarch of the Clermont estate, Alice Livingston. Moms enjoy a leisurely walk through some of the museum’s historic gardens, illustrated with family photographs and Alice’s own writings. The tour ends with an afternoon tea party.
Light fare is served, including Clermont’s own blend of Harney & Sons tea, tea sandwiches, fresh fruit, and dainty desserts of all sorts. Enjoy the clink of tea cups and feel free to take “one lump or two” as you relax in the rich scenery enjoyed by the well-to-do Alice Livingston and her two daughters more than 100 years ago.
Clermont State Historic Site features the mansion, formal gardens, scenic Hudson River views and miles of hiking trails. The Friends of Clermont is a non-profit educational corporation founded in 1977 to support and supplement the museum’s education and historic preservation programs. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973, Clermont is one of 6 historic sites and 13 parks administered by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, Taconic Region.
