About
“Pride in the Sky 2024,” the first-ever pride celebration at the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, was such a resounding success this past spring that the team at Big Gay Hudson Valley is already drawing up the plans for the 2025 festival!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 17, 2025, for the second-annual “Pride in the Sky” extravaganza. Stay tuned for more details. Click here for updates.
At 2024’s inaugural event at the Walkway, thousands of participants and hundreds of volunteers kicked off Pride Month and celebrated the unity, diversity and freedom that make the Hudson Valley such a wonderful place to visit. The Walkway’s new LED color-changing lights illuminated the 1.26-mile-long bridge in rainbow colors for the evening.
At dusk, a group of 100-plus flag marshals carried a 15-foot-wide, 500-foot-long portion of the famous Key West flag across the Hudson River from the Dutchess County side of the Walkway to the Ulster County side. The eight-color, 1.5-mile-long Key West flag was created in 1998 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Pride Flag. It stretched from one end of Key West, Florida, to the opposite side of the island.
A refurbished railroad bridge built in 1889, the Walkway rises 212 feet above the majestic Hudson River. It's the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world and offers a bird’s eye view of the river and its surrounding highlands.
