Where: Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum via Facebook Premiere
Kick-off Women’s History month with Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library! Two of the National Park Service's leading experts on the Women's Rights Movement join in a conversation with FDR Presidential Library Director Paul Sparrow to discuss the struggle for Women's Suffrage. From the convention at Seneca Falls to the passage of the 19th Amendment, the fight for equality laid the foundation for the work of Eleanor Roosevelt and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Howland Cultural Center celebrates Women’s History Month with their ‘I am WOMAN’ gallery, opening on March 6th. The gallery will be open every Saturday and Sunday in March from 1-5pm.

The fight for women's rights in New York State had important implications at the national level, and many suffrage leaders from New York were important at the Federal level. This program will give an overview of the fight for women's rights that resulted in the passage of women's suffrage in 1917 in New York State, and nationally in 1920 with passage of the 19th Amendment. It will focus especially on artifacts and stories connected to the Hudson Valley. This presentation will be given by Ashley Hopkins Benton, Senior Historian and Curator of Social History at the New York State Museum. This program will be a free Facebook Live lecture.

Where: Clermont State Historic Site
Join one of Clermont’s interpreters to hear stories of brave women and girls from the past on the mansion porch! In case of extreme weather, it will be hosted via Facebook. There is no charge to attend the program, but visitors must register in advance. Attendance will be limited to aid in social distancing.

Women Picturing Women studies the key themes that emerged when selecting only images of women by women artists. In these findings, women artists from the seventeenth century to the 1960s frequently communicated the idea of an intimate or sheltered enclosure such as a room, studio, or garden, even though these women participated in a more public arena to show or even make their work. Other women artists relayed the idea of venturing into an outright public place such as a street or an office, or into the more public, intellectual world of a narrative found in religion, mythology, or social critique.
