Celebrate National Donut Day at These Dutchess Favorites

Date Published: November 5, 2019

Turns out National Donut comes around twice a year – the first Friday of June and November 5th. But let’s be real, it doesn’t need to be a national holiday to enjoy a donut, and here in Dutchess we have a variety of options to choose from when on the hunt for the best donut. We’re giving you a roundup of some of our favorites!

Glazed Over Donuts – Beaconglazed_over_donuts

If you are a donut fanatic – this place is a must stop in Beacon. Voted 'Best Doughnut Shop in New York' by Insider you know it must be good! They’re whipping up made-to-order donuts with maximum customization for the customer. Choose from a variety of glazes, toppings and drizzles to create your dream donut creation. Can’t decide for yourself? Try their Donut of the Day (#DOTD) – it’s always a crowd pleaser!

Fishkill Farms – Hopewell Junction

Fall is always a great time of year for a trip to the farm. Fishkill Farms offers pick-your-own fruits and vegetables, hard cider tasting, and best of all, the homemade cider donuts! Donuts are made daily and are often sold until they sell out, with options of old fashioned or cinnamon sugar. The line is always worth the wait, and if you’re lucky you’ll end up with a piping hot donut right out of the fryer – the best!

Barton Orchards – Poughquagcider_donuts

Cider donuts truly are a fall treat, but lucky for us, Barton Orchards serves them year-round! Winner of Hudson Valley Magazine’s Best Cider Donuts several times, Barton Orchards, you know they’re good! Feel free to go all-out with their cider donut sundaes. Head to the orchards to try one for yourself!

Tomi’s Bites – Hopewell Junction

When donuts are as small as the miniature ones at Tomi’s – it’s okay to pop two or more in your mouth in one sitting, right? This bakery and café offers a range of baked goods like bagels and breads, but the buzz is on about their mini donuts, which you can top with assorted glazes; toppings like chocolate chips, toasted coconut, and slivered almonds; and drizzles to create countless combinations.

Adam’s Fairacre Farms – Wappingers Falls & Poughkeepsie

We know what you may be thinking – donuts at a grocery store? But Adam’s is so much more than a grocery store. Their aisles are filled with locally sourced produce, baked goods, speciality products and more. Maybe you’ve found yourself on Route 9 with a cider donut craving and not a farm in sight. Don’t worry, swing into Adam’s in Wappingers for some of their store made cider donuts.

Peaceful Provisions – Beacon

Beacon is certainly a paradise for foodies, and they've recently added vegan donuts to the list. Peaceful Provisions crafts immensely popular plant-based treats; so popular in fact that they often sell out by noon on the weekends, so head to Main Street bright and early! In addition to being completely animal product-free, these desserts come in truly unique and spectacular flavors. Blueberry fritters, lemon poppy seed twists, orange tahini donuts and black sesame milk bread filled with strawberry cream are just a few examples of recent specials.
