This leading co-ed liberal arts college was founded by brewer/philanthropist Matthew Vassar in 1861. Thousand-acre campus includes renowned architecture, 200 species of trees, two lakes, Shakespeare Garden, ecological preserve, and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Free walking tours in spring and fall. Facilities and offerings include Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Skinner Hall of Music, Powerhouse Theater season, Class of 1951 Observatory, Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film, Fergusson Dance Theater, James W.
