Pick-Your-Own Apples, Pumpkins and More at These Dutchess Farms

Fall is nearly here, and we're ready for crisp apples, sweet cider donuts and perfect pumpkins! Farms offer an ideal outdoor activity for friends and family, with pick-your-own, farm fresh food, and activities for kids. Enjoy the scenic country views and the brilliant colors of fall while roaming local Dutchess orchards and pumpkin patches. Your day at the farm is sure to result in memorable moments!

• Barton Orchards is a 175-acre apple orchard and vegetable farm located in Poughquag, that has been in the Barton family for over 40 years. They pride themselves on offering a premier pick-your-own experience, and the perfect place to build traditions year after year. Stop by the ice cream stand to try their famous apple cider doughnut sundae, grab a bite to eat in the market and shop their selection of farm fresh produce and specialty goods. Adults can head to the tap room for a selection of local craft beer, wine and cider, with beautiful outdoor seating areas!

Status: Apple picking is open. Pumpkin picking typically begins in mid-September.

Hours: Open for picking daily. Picking is from 11 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Farm is open Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.–9 p.m. 

Apple picking at Cedar Heights Orchard

• Cedar Heights Orchard sits just three miles from the charming Village of Rhinebeck. Plan your visit to pick perfect apples and take in fabulous views in the Hudson Valley at this family owned orchard. With a variety of heirloom trees to pick from, as well as Galas, Cortlands, Jonamacs, Empires, Macouns, Red Delicious and many more.

Status: Opening Aug. 31 for apple picking. Be sure to call (914) 589-5245 to check availability.

Hours: Daily 9 a.m.—5 p.m.

• Dykeman Farm in Pawling is excited to welcome visitors for the pumpkin picking season. This family-owned, fourth-generation, New York State Grown & Certified vegetable farm upholds their impeccable reputation for quality and conscientious service for both locals and visitors alike! Enjoy the pumpkin patch, which opened in 1974 and was voted Best Pumpkin Patch in the Hudson Valley in 2024 by Hudson Valley Magazine, along with their fresh farm market, hayrides and friendly hospitality. 

Status: Pumpkin picking is open weekends only starting Sept. 28, plus Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. Apple picking is by reservation only in September and October.

Hours: The farm is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; and Sunday and Monday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. The pumpkin patch is open Saturday and Sunday, plus Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

• Fishkill Farms is a 270-acre apple orchard and vegetable farm located in Hopewell Junction, that has been in the Morgenthau family for over 100 years. Their homegrown organic vegetables and eco-certified fruit can be found year-round at the farm store and through their seasonal pick-your-own operation, including apples and pumpkins in the fall. Status: Open for apple picking; pumpkin picking begins mid-September. The corn maze will also open in mid-September. Live music and wagon rides through the orchard every weekend.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Pick-your-own by reservation only.

• Greig Farm in Red Hook is a place that bring people together and serves their community! Venture out into the orchards as you take in views of the Catskill Mountains. Both apple and pumpkin picking are available during the fall season. Check their website to learn more about the picking schedule. Make your visit a full day affair by staying to visit the adorable pygmy goats, walk the farm trails, eat at the market and explore the SoHu craft market. Shop handcrafted jewelry, discover works from local artists, spend time at the koi pond and walk the public hiking trails while you're there!  In addition, the Red Hook site houses The O Zone Sustainability Center in a charming red barn. This bulk-refill market strives to spark action in the fight against climate change.

Status: Open for apple picking starting Aug. 24 with two varieties and more to be added as the season progresses; pumpkin picking typically begins mid-September.

Hours: Daily 9 a.m.–8 p.m.

• Mead Orchards is a picturesque, 100-acre fruit orchard and vegetable farm in Tivoli open since 1916, growing 19 varieties of apples, winter squashes, pumpkins and gourds! Pick-your-own apples and pumpkins occurs on weekends only. You can stock up on pre-picked seasonal fruit, veggies and more at the weekend farm stand. New this season are the free sunflower maze and the giant caterpillar tunnel for kids!

Status: Open for apple picking Aug. 30; pumpkin picking will start on Oct, 4 and run through the weekend of Oct. 25–27.

Hours: Pick-your-own Fridays 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.–4 p.m.; and Labor Day (Sept. 2), Rosh Hashanah (Oct. 3) and  Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day (Oct. 14) 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

• Meadowbrook Farm in Wappingers Falls is a three-generation family farm and market, makes soft apple cider donuts on premises every day! Let their fresh pressed apple cider quench your thirst. Products include cider, sweet corn, tomatoes, salsa, homemade pies and baked goods, eggs, honey, maple syrup, jams and jellies. Market open daily. Pick-your-own apples on weekends only!

Status: Open for apple picking; pumpkin picking typically begins in mid-September.

Hours: Pick-your-own open daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; market open daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m.

Couple apple picking at Rose Hill Farm in Red Hook

• Rose Hill Farm is a historic family-owned pick your own fruit orchard in Red Hook established in 1798. The farm embraces holistic growing practices that focus on plant and soil health. A variety of apples are available including Honeycrisp, Jonamac and Pioneer McIntosh both on the orchard as well as pre-picked apples at the farmstand.

Hours: Pick-your-own open Thursday and Friday 3–7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
