The Work of Michael Kelly Williams. Sculptures, works on paper, and prints inspired by music, literature, nature, and the art of the African diaspora. On display in The Palmer Gallery, College Center, Jan. 16Feb. 16.
"100 Years of Quantum Uncertainty." A lecture by Jose Perillan, an Associate Professor of Physics at Vassar and the Science, Technology, and Society Program Director. Jan. 31, 5 p.m., Taylor Hall 203.
"Stimmung" (1968) by Karlheinz Stockhausen. A 70-minute work for six singers that calls for nearly constant singing of quickly fluctuating phonemes in polyrhythmic, overlapping patterns. Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
A Workshop in the Feldenkrais Method. Certified Feldenkrais practitioners Carolyn Palmer and Drew Minter will lead two lessons and speak about the method, entertaining participants questions at the end of each lesson. Feb. 1, 11 a.m., Villard Room, Main Building.
The Medical Benefits of Music. Daniel J. Levitin, a Professor Emeritus of Psychology and Neuroscience at McGill University, discusses the medical benefits of music. Feb. 1, 7:30 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
"Playing with Chaos: Reimagining Musical Improvisation through Unpredictable Audio Technologies." This lecture/performance surveys past expressions of sonic disorder in music by Haydn, Beethoven, and Mahler, among others. Feb. 2, 1 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
"ad astra..." Solo Cello with Commentary: This program weaves together an array of creatively indeterminate works featuring Iva Casian-Lakos with commentary by Assistant Professor of Astronomy Ed Buie II. Feb. 2, 3 p.m., Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center.
Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre. The Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre performs works created by faculty, students, and guest choreographers, selected from the current repertory. Feb. 7, 7 p.m., Frances Daly Fergusson Dance Theater, Kenyon Hall.
"Irresistible Resistors: One Hundred Years of Technology, Music, and Culture." Join Drake Andersen on a historical exploration of how new technologies for making and enjoying music developed over the past 100 years. Feb. 8, 4 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
"Metropolis Reimagined." A new scoring of the 1984 restoration of Fritz Langs classic film, "Metropolis," performed live by acclaimed pianist Po-Wei Ger and electronic artist Drake Andersen. Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
Honorary Adene and Richard Wilson Concert. A program of music by Unsuk Chin, Richard Wilson, and Luciano Berio capped by a large-ensemble performance of the minimalist classic "In C" by Terry Riley. Performers include festival co-directors Drew Minter and Thomas Sauer, violinist Marka Young, and an ensemble drawn from the Vassar College Orchestra and Choirs. Feb. 9, 3 p.m., Skinner Hall of Music.
