The FDR Presidential Library and Museum hosts a full day of free holiday events on Dec. 14! Enjoy holiday decorations, music, refreshments and special activities including free photo ops with Santa, the annual Children's Reading Festival, and Holiday Cards for Sailors in the Wallace Center.
The annual Children's Reading Festival will be held from 1:304 p.m. Children's book authors will read from and sign copies of their books. Featured books will be available for purchase in the New Deal Store in the Wallace Center. Participating authors include Barbara Ann Mojica, author of "Little Miss History Travels to Hyde Park, Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum;" A.J. Schenkman, author of "Franklin's Trees;" and Michael Garland, author of "Oh, What a Christmas!" and "Grandpa's Tractor."
Children can also make holiday cards for sailors on the USS Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and meet with Dickens, a little dog who loves to impersonate President Roosevelt's famous dog, Fala, beginning at 12 p.m. in the Wallace Center. Free photo time with Santa will be from 13 p.m. Refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon in the Wallace Center lobby.
The FDR Library and Museum will be open to visitors free of charge from 9 a.m.5 p.m., and The Home of FDR (Springwood) will have tours available from 9:30 a.m.4 p.m. Both the Home and the Roosevelt Library study will be decorated for the holidays as they were during the Roosevelt presidency.
