A special ceremony will mark this season's opening day at the historic John Kane House. The Pawling Lions Club will be hanging a veterans banner in honor of General George Washington at 11 a.m. with a ceremony on the front lawn.

From September through November of 1778, General Washington based his military movements in Pawling, and the home of John and Sybil Kane was one of the places he resided during this time.

Today, the Kane House is the Pawling Historical Society's main museum. It will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. through October (or by appointment year-round). Visitors can learn about the area's indigenous and European settlers; the Anti-Rent Rebellion of 1765; General Washington's use of Pawling; and the effect of the Revolutionary War upon the Pawling community.

Check out the Pawling Historical Society's Facebook page for event updates.
