Bard College Hosts Lecture by Harvard Professor Glenda Carpio

Bard College's Inaugural "Rethinking Place: Bard-on-Mahicantuck Toni Morrison Lecturer" will be Harvard Professor of English and of African and African American Studies Glenda Carpio. The lecture, titled "Migrant Aesthetics," will be an adaptation of Carpio's book by the same title and shows how contemporary authors have captured the historical legacies and political injustices that have caused forced migration. This lecture series celebrates the work of both Electa “Wuhwehweeheemeew” Quinney, a citizen of the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican nation and the first woman to teach in a public school in the territory which would become Wisconsin; and American novelist, essayist and editor Toni Morrison, who was a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at Bard College from 1979-1981.
