Locust Grove Estate presents an art exhibition titled "Fertile Ground: The Hudson Valley Animal Paintings of Caroline Clowes." The exhibition, organized by the Dutchess County Historical Society, examines the LaGrange artist's extraordinary rise to national acclaim. The exhibition is free with no reservations required and runs from Nov. 4 through Dec. 30. There will be an opening reception featuring wine and lavish hors d'oeuvres on Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. To purchase tickets to the reception, click here.

There will also be a series of free lectures in conjunction with the exhibition. Click here to reserve tickets. The schedule is as follows:

Nov. 20, 2 p.m.: “From Attic to Gallery, the Art and Science of Conserving Art” (David Heskes, Yost Conservation).

Dec. 4, 2 p.m.: “Painting in a Challenging Landscape: Women Artists in the 19th Century.” (Rob Doyle, President of the Dutchess County Historical Society).

Dec. 11, 2 p.m.: “Drawn to Nature: The Sketches and Studies of Caroline Clowes.” (Caroline Culp, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art History at Vassar College).

Dec. 18, 2 p.m.: “Caroline Clowes: How Poughkeepsie, the City of Schools, Nurtured an Artist.” (Bill Jeffway, Executive Director of the Dutchess County Historical Society; and Melodye Moore, Trustee and Collections Chair of the Dutchess County Historical Society).
