The concert will feature Tchaikovskys "Symphony No. 2," which was inspired by Ukrainian folk music and the Ukrainian National Anthem. Local 18-year-old cellist Andrew Chun will be the guest soloist for Schumanns "Cello Concerto in A minor." The concert will open with an audience favorite "The Hebrides (Fingals Cave)" by Mendelssohn.
Andrew Chun has previously graduated from The Juilliard Schools Pre-College Division, studying with Minhye Clara Kim. He is also a winner of the National Young Arts Foundation Competition and received the first prize of the Camerata Artists International Competition, the first prize and gold prize of the Vivo International Competition, the first prize and virtuoso prize of the NYYVC Competition, the first prize of the Enkor International Competition and the first prize of the United States International Music Competition. He was a finalist on NPRs "From the Top" radio show.
Andrew has participated in masterclasses and studied with Laurence Lesser, Zvi Plesser, Joel Krosnick, Astrid Schween and the Borromeo Quartet. Andrew was admitted to the Morningside Music Bridge Program with full scholarship during the summer of 2020. He has attended the Perlman Music Program since the summer of 2021 under the tutelage of Itzhak and Toby Perlman.
Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra was formed in 2006 to bring live orchestral music to northern Dutchess County and the surrounding Hudson Valley. Now in its 17th season, the orchestra offers the best possible live performances of classical music at family-affordable prices. Since the beginning, the orchestra has been conducted by Kathleen Beckmann, who also serves as artistic director.
