Winnakee Land Trust's Annual Tour of Historic Barns and Working Farms
Labor Day weekend has come and gone, and here in Dutchess that means we start getting excited for fall. The trees will slowly start to pop with color, the temperatures get cool, and the farms start to come alive. It’s a great time to plan a trip to the region and explore the unique things that make us Distinctly Dutchess, and that includes the Winnakee Land Trust’s Annual Tour of Historic Barns and Working Farms on September 16, 2017. There is an abundance of rich history and beautiful landscapes here in our area, and this tour celebrates just that! It has become a northern Dutchess County signature event and one that highlights the breathtaking Hudson Valley farmland and open spaces.
This family-friendly tour is self-guided, and your ticket will include all the information you need for an unforgettable day. Tickets can be purchased for $50, which includes a map and information guide. Guests are encouraged to explore by whatever means they desire, whether it be by car, by motorcycle or by bicycle. This freedom allows you to create a memorable experience and give you a unique perspective of the areas historic barns and farms. You can purchase tickets for this event here.
The tour will begin at 11:00am at the Southland Foundation’s recently restored South Barn in Rhinebeck and visit eight beautiful properties throughout northern Dutchess County. The day will conclude with a reception from 4:30-6:00pm at Heermance Farm featuring local cuisine prepared by Chocolate Mousse Catering, locally brewed beer by From the Ground Brewery, wine by Schatzi Wine importers, and live music by the Steven Michael Pague Ensemble. More than just a tour, this event seeks to submerge you in the local culture and make for a fun-filled day!
The Winnakee Land Trust advises all participants to begin the tour no later than 12:30pm, as all barns will close at 4:00pm. In addition to a mapped brochure that will outline the self-guided route, guides will be present to lead you through at each site on the tour, being available to give further explanation and answer any questions you may have.
