The Wait is Over - Uber and Lyft Come to Dutchess County
After months of rumors and speculation about whether the popular ride-hailing apps Uber and Lyft would come to Dutchess County, the day is finally here. As of June 29, 2017, both Uber and Lyft are officially operating in Dutchess. The apps are the first of their kind to be used in the area, and are a welcomed addition, particularly as service kicks off just in time for the July 4th holiday weekend.
For those not familiar with Uber and Lyft, they are mobile apps that can be downloaded to your smartphone, linked to your credit card, and are used for hailing -transportation to provide an easy and convenient ride-hailing experience, with no cash exchange needed. The apps give the rider a quote for the trip, and allow them to track their driver to estimate their arrival time. Open the app and enter your information, the address of where you want to go, and summon a ride. Both are used in most major cities across the US and internationally. Although still very new to our community, we are excited about this new addition and hope the ride-hailing apps have much success in Dutchess County and the Hudson Valley region.
As part of the launch of Uber and Lyft in Dutchess County, we are offering Uber riders $20 off their first trip! To redeem this promotion, use the code DUTCHESSTOURISM. We look forward to hearing about your experience.
The mobile apps are extremely helpful in situations where access to a car is not available, after a few drinks have been consumed with friends, and particularly for out of town travelers. Uber and Lyft will be able to offer a quick and accessible service to tourists. Whether visitors are training up from New York City, or flying into Stewart International Airport, the mobile apps will be a new option for completing their trip to a local hotel or nearby attraction.
The apps often have additional promotions, which may include first time users. Visit the links below and be sure to sign up!
