"The American Soldier" Honors Veterans & Paints War on Bannerman's Island on Saturday, June 17th

The Bannerman Castle Trust, Inc. proudly presents “The American Soldier” a powerful one-man theatrical event starring writer and actor Douglas Taurel on Saturday, June 17th.
Douglas Taurel honors veterans and their families by performing his powerful and critically acclaimed Off Broadway solo show The American Soldier on Bannerman Island on Saturday, June 17th, at 3pm.
The play is based on factual accounts and actual letters written by veterans and their family members, from the American Revolutionary War, all the way through the current Afghanistan conflict. It honors and explores the internal struggles that veterans and their families face when the soldier returns home from combat. The American Soldier received 4 stars at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, was nominated for International Amnesty Award for theatre excellence and recently performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
In 55-minutes, enhanced by interplay of sound and lights, Taurel enters into the personas of 14 veterans and their family members, telling their story of courage and sacrifice. The American Soldier exposes their flaws and their scars with both darkness and humor, and honors their incredible commitment for our freedoms. The American Soldier is not simply a play, but a journey through the American story.

Taurel's screen credits include playing tough and edgy characters in television programs including Mr. Robot, Nurse Jackie, Damages, The Americans, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Believe, NYC 22, and The Following. Film credits include a supporting role in the feature film The Cobbler, directed by Oscar nominated Tom McCarthy and starring Adam Sandler and Dustin Hoffman.

Tickets for this show are $65, and $60 for veterans, and includes the boat trip on the Estuary Steward to and from Bannerman’s Island and a guided tour of the island.
