See "War of the Worlds" Radio Broadcast Play on Bannerman's Island on Sept. 16th!

We know you’ve heard tell of the historic “War of the Worlds” radio broadcast by Orson Welles, and the sheer terror that ensued for real after it aired! The Bannerman Castle Trust presents three events this weekend, and the main event is the amazing “War of the Worlds” LIVE! – yes, the original 1938 Radio Broadcast, adapted by John Landry and performed by the Theatre on the Road on Saturday, September 16th at 5 pm right out on Bannerman’s Island, located on the Hudson River between Beacon and Cold Spring.

In “War of the Worlds”, the plot of the classic sci-fi novel is that an alien invasion throws humanity into chaos. All it took to cause real-life panic in the street was Orsen Welles’s 1938 radio adaptation, fake news which listeners took for real news! Your evening includes the full original broadcast; complete with vintage commercials and live sound effects, this radio play is a thrilling homage to the form’s golden age. Actor John Adair gives a brilliant performance as Orson Welles!

You’ll enjoy a guided island tour and a very unique theatre experience, while enjoying the islands pristine beauty and spectacular Catskill Mountain views.  The island’s new visitor center and museum will also be open in the original Bannerman Family residence!

The Bannerman’s Island tour boat, the Estuary Steward brings attendees to the Island from the Beacon Institute Dock at the Beacon Waterfront (directly across from the Beacon train station) at 3:15pm and 4:15pm. Your $65 fee includes the boat trip to & from Bannerman’s Island, a tour of the island and the “War of the Worlds” performance. Group rates are available for 10 people or more at $10 off the ticket price. Reservations and tickets can be purchased online at www.Bannermancastle.org.
