Did you know that maple production in New York is among the highest in the United States? Join us for Maple Weekend on March 17th-18th and 24th-25th to learn more fun facts about the sweet stuff! Here in Dutchess County, we have a handful of family-owned, high-quality maple syrup companies that look forward to educating you about the maple syrup making process, in addition to offering sugarhouse tours, family-friendly activities, tastings and more!
Crown Maple Syrup
Join Crown Maple Syrup at their beautiful location in Dover Plains for a maple experience to remember. Each year, Crown Maple takes Maple Weekend to the next level and this year will not disappoint. Taste their latest flavors including Irish Whiskey Barreled, Spiced Rum Infused and Coffee Infused! And if you’re over 21, treat yourself to a maple spiked cocktail or choose from a selection of local wines and craft beers. You’ll even have the opportunity to try Salt Point Meadery’s meads, including Queen’s Crown that was crafted with Crown Maple Syrup! The café will be open to feature a variety of maple inspired culinary dishes, a sampling station will be open for trying out a number of their products, and the staff will be talking all about the tree tapping process and answering your maple syrup questions! Admission is free, so plan to stop by!
This third-generation family farm has been producing maple syrup since the 1950s. What started as a hobby, Soukup Farms now operates over 2,000 taps and sells, not only pure maple syrup, but a number of specialty products including hot sauce, mustard and candy. Maple Weekend allowed the Soukup family to welcome you on to their farm and create an educational and fun experience for the whole family! Their schedule for Maple Weekend is as follows:
March 17th & 18th, 10am – 4pm
March 24th & 25th, 10am – 4pm
Join them as they share their entire maple syrup process, from tapping to boiling to bottling!
Cronin’s Maple Farm
For both Maple Weekends, Cronin Maple Farm will be serving a Pancake Breakfast, and of course, a side of bacon! Breakfast will be served from 9am – 3pm at a price of $8 for adults and $4 for children. Additionally, the farm will be offering educational maple tours, demonstrating chainsaw carving and allowing visitors to sample their selection of specialty maple products. Don’t miss this opportunity to dive right into the thick of sugaring season at Cronin’s Maple Farm!
The Fresh Air Fund Maple Farm
First and foremost, The Fresh Air Fund is a wonderful organization serving New York City children from low-income communities. Here is Dutchess County, we welcome these children into our community to spend two weeks at one of the five overnight camps in Fishkill, allowing them to partake in outdoor summer adventures. One of these camps includes Sharpe Reservation, where they will be hosting this year’s 15th Annual Sugar Maple Celebration! The event is free and will offer a number of activities to enjoy, including a maple sugaring demonstration, nature discovery room, planetarium, live animal show, local crafts, live music and the annual Maple Syrup Judging Contest. The celebration will take place during Maple Weekend on Saturday, March 24th from 10am – 4pm.
Last but most certainly not least, Bowdoin Park in Wappingers will be hosting a Maple Open House on March 31st from 10am – 2pm. Although not technically during Maple Weekend, their even still occurs during the peak of maple season, making it a fun time for adults and kids alike to come learn more about this sticky process.
