New Directions 2017: 33rd Annual National Juried Contemporary Art Exhibition at Barrett

Catch the New Directions '17 exhibit this month at The Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie! It’s well worth a visit to see these truly original works of art. The exhibition is on view now through Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Yes, somehow 60 artworks have been selected from the more than 730 submitted for consideration for New Directions 2017, the 33rd Annual National Juried Contemporary Art Exhibition. With submissions from 30 states, these artists and locations are included in the exhibition, juried by Ruth Erickson, Associate Curator, Institute of Contemporary Art , Boston. 

Erickson co-curated the major exhibition “Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933-1957” with Helen Molesworth and has organized exhibitions of the work of artists Rokni and Ramin Haerizadeh and Ethan Murrow at the ICA/Boston. She is currently at work on the first U.S. survey of Mark Dion’s work to open in 2017. Erickson received her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014 and has published and presented her writing widely. She serves as a visiting critic at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Saturday, October 21 at, 3pm there is an Artists' Talk featuring Elizabeth Panzer, New Paltz and Jason Isolini, Lake Peekskill. Moderated by Monica Church, Associate Director, John, W, Palmer '90 Gallery, Vassar College and adviser to PHOCUS and the Baldek Photographic Center, Vassar College.

At 4:30 pm, a Special Members' Reception for New Directions '17 follows. Members, join in for delicious food, refreshments, and door prizes! A new event that’s free to Barrett members. Guests are $5.
