It's That Time - the 174th Dutchess County Fair is Back August 20-25!
It’s that time – the Dutchess County Fair returns to the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck for its 174th year! For six straight days, from Tuesday, August 20th through Sunday, August 25th, the fair will celebrate agriculture in a way that individuals of all ages can enjoy. From livestock, to local specialty foods and entertainment, it’s truly an experience for the whole family.
The fairgrounds transforms into an entertainment destination where big name talent can be enjoyed, “thrill a minute” excitement can be experienced at one of the finest carnivals in the entire country, free shows and attractions can be viewed almost constantly from the time you arrive to the time you leave. The tradition of excellence that has been the Dutchess County Fair for over 170 years offers something for everyone and creates memorable moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Year after year the fair draws crowds of over 500,000 attendees, the second largest county fair in all of New York State. Whether you plan to join us for a day trip, weekend getaway or the whole duration, there’s plenty to see and do to keep fairgoers entertained. The list of vendors and attractions includes agriculture, horticulture, arts and crafts, antiques, crafts food and beverages, rides, live music and so much more! You can save on admission by purchasing advance tickets for rides and concerts here.
With a focus on agriculture, it should come as no surprise that you’ll see plenty of livestock exhibitors, which bring thousands of dairy cows, beef cattle, sheep, goats, rabbits, hogs, llamas, alpacas and horses to an area known as Livestock Hill. One of the liveliest spots of the fairgrounds, you can witness daily judging, milking demonstrations, wool working and sheep shearing. Ever been in the presence of a dairy cow birth? Experience something new at the Salute to Agriculture Tent where you can witness the live birth of a calf! And there’s always something for the little ones in the AgVenture Kids Activity Tent, where kids ages 3-10 can get hands-on experience on a mock farm.
Live music amps up the crowds, and this year’s Grandstand concerts will feature Lanco on August 20th, Dylan Scott on August 21st, LOCASH on August 22nd and Daughtry on August 23rd. In addition to daily concerts, there will be plenty of free attractions and shows including Rosaire’s Racing Pigs, Mentalist Craig Karges, Pawstars Canine Firsbee Dogs, Northeast Lumberjack Show and more!
And who doesn’t come to the fair to savor the fair food?! Snack on classics like funnel cake, sausage and peppers, corn on the cob, french fries, and cotton candy. Bite into a bacon, macaroni and cheese corn dog, over-filled gyro, garlic mozzarella steak or meatball sub for dinner. And top it all off with the taste of churros, taffy, cream puffs, homemade ice cream, and chocolate flavored kettle corn! If there’s any time to indulge it’s at the Dutchess County Fair!
For those with sensory processing issues, #ThinkDifferently Thursday accommodates families with an early opening while disabling lights, music and other sounds from attractions on the carnival midway, because everyone should have the opportunity to experience the fun!
