Interfaith Music Festival's 'Rejoice!' on Nov. 12th Celebrates Religious Diversity

The Dutchess County Interfaith Council presents the 42nd Annual Interfaith Music Festival “Rejoice!” on Sunday afternoon, November 12th, at 3pm. The concert will be held at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie. Contact them at 845-229-0170.

This long-standing event provides ogives people of many congregations the chance to gather and appreciate the worship music of the varied faiths present in the Hudson Valley. The program features a wonderful sampling of music and performances from Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu and Baha’i traditions. 

The Interfaith Singers will premiere the work “What God Hears” by Kevin Becker, Maris Kristapsons will conduct Martin How’s “Day By Day,” and the Gospel selection “Rejoice” will be directed by Tamara Bond Williams, of All Souls UnitedSabari Raja of the Hindu Samaj in Wappingers Falls will chant. 

The Festival Organist is Leslie Delauney, Music Director at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. Also featured is the Beulah Youth Mass Choir under the direction of Rev. Tarrance Motley-Epps, as well as an Interfaith Youth Choir singing “Let Us Light a Candle,” with Amy Huber as director. This promises to be a wonderful chance to experience, and be inspired by, the beautiful music of diverse religious traditions.

"At a time when forces in our society are driving people apart, the Interfaith Music Festival's role in bringing people of different faiths and beliefs together is especially important,” said Kristapsons, music director of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Poughkeepsie. “Working with the festival for many years has been tremendously gratifying, finding common ground through music."

Gretchen Gould will be honored for contributing her significant talents as choir director, arranger and musical composer to the Interfaith Music Festival for many years. The largest annual fundraising activity of the Dutchess County Interfaith Council, it benefits the Council’s many varied programs. These include the CROP Walk to End Hunger, Interfaith Story Circle, and Worship Respite Care.
