Dutchess Diners, Drive-Ins & Delis

We dare you to get through this list without getting hungry! Dutchess County is known for its gourmet food scene thanks to the Culinary Institute of America graduating world-class chefs right here in Hyde Park. But what about the kid-friendly, inexpensive, but delicious quick fixes for your growling stomach? Here are a few suggestions for the best places in the county to quench that hunger (and in some cases, even catch a movie while doing so!)

 

Diners:

A diner is a truly magical place, and can transport you back to a simpler time. Indulge in this American tradition at any of these selections for a clean and delicious dining experience.

 

Daily Planet – 1202 Route 55 in Lagrangeville

This menu has so much to choose from… not to mention a giant dessert case! This is a classic diner with "out-of-this-world" decor that never disappoints.

Table Talk Diner has a friendly wait staff and a wide variety of food to choose from. This diner features fresh food and big portions.

This is a fun, hip diner. It is not all shakes, fries, and burgers here. There are special menu items that feature international foods.

Red Line Diner features a huge menu and nostalgic ambiance. Stop in for some great burgers! Open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Come and eat here for the retro atmosphere and extensive menu selection. Even the exterior of the building plays into the vintage diner vibe.

Drive-Ins:

Everything always comes back into style, right? Check out any one of these three instagrammable drive-in movie and food establishments for an unforgettable night of fun and entertainment. This is a very unique experience, and we have some of the best here in Dutchess.

 

Four Brothers Pizza Inn and Restaurant Drive In – 4957 Route 22 in Amenia

This delicious Greek-style restaurant has a surprise behind it! A double feature drive-in spot decorated in retro 70’s style décor makes this a must see spot in Dutchess County. Great for family fun, date nights, or a fun night with friends.

This drive-in has been in operation since 1955! Come enjoy a double feature and a snack on a beautiful Dutchess County summer night.

This drive-in is conveniently located across the street from the FDR estate. Operating since 1950, this drive-in has a nostalgic feel to it… and a full service concessions stand!

Delis:

Delicatessens are a New York institution. You cannot get a sandwich like the ones you can get here in any other part of the world. Come to Dutchess and experience a true deli sandwich at any one of these fine establishments.

 

Froggy’s Deli and Catering – 31 Route 22 in Pawling

Froggy’s is closed only one day a year (Christmas Day) so you can always count on getting your morning (or any time of day) breakfast sandwich here! Just text them your order and they will have it ready for you when you walk in.

Featured menu item: Grand Slam – Two eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, and cheese. (This is a giant sandwich!)

Adams Fairacre Farms – 765 Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, or 160 Old Post Road in Wappinger

Adams prides themselves on service. You can go in to get a deli sandwich for lunch, or have an entire event catered by Adams.

Featured menu item: Gourmet Antipasto Platter – Marinated mozzarella, roasted red peppers, mixed olive medley, marinated mushrooms, dry salami, extra sharp provolone.

Vinny’s Deli and Pasta – 14 East Main Street in Pawling

This is the pinnacle of the Italian deli located right here in Dutchess County. From fresh hand stretched mozzarella made daily to homemade pastas, you can’t beat this deli when it comes to Italian specialties. Vinny was even featured on the Food Network for his namesake special.

Featured menu item: Vinny’s Famous Steak Margarita - Shaved steak, fresh melted mozzarella, thin layer of pepperoni and sausage, topped with marinara sauce with grilled mushrooms and onions, topped with arugula and fresh basil on toasted garlic bread.

Rossi Rosticceria Deli – 45 S. Clover Street in Poughkeepsie

Established in 1979, Rossi and Sons has been around for a while, and with good reason! Rossi has daily specials, hot dishes, and a list of mouth watering paninis.

Featured menu item: Mediterranean Panini – grilled eggplant, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, fresh mozzarella, and roasted peppers.

Jeanie Bean & Family – 2411 Salt Point Turnpike in Clinton Corners

If you want a cozy atmosphere where you can sit and eat like you are in your grandmother’s living room, Jeanie Bean’s is the place for you. This place has a great British flair to it. Not only is this a great deli, but stop in for local jams, honey, and more!

Featured menu item: Bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll… your classic New York style breakfast sandwich!
