County Players "Bell Book and Candle" Opens September 8 for its 60th Anniversary!
One of our favorite groups, the County Players, officially opens their 60th Anniversary Season with the “bewitchingly” romantic comedy Bell, Book And Candle this Friday, September 8th, at 8 pm. Take three witches, a bewildered young man and a rather wicked cat. Mix with a good glug of humor, stir in a dollop of desire. The result is a deliciously dark tale of treachery and enchantment that will leave you spellbound.
Gillian Holroyd leads a charmed life, and when her eye falls on the man upstairs, she soon has him under her spell. But her family is far from impressed and get down to some hocus pocus of their own. It’s a war of the warlocks with a hapless human playing mortal in the middle. What begins as an amusing game rapidly becomes more devilishly dangerous. Torn between two worlds, Gillian is forced to answer the age-old question – is love always worth the sacrifice?
Bell, Book and Candle is frequently cited as the forerunner to shows such as Charmed and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, as well as such diverse witch-meets-mortal fare as the Harry Potter series, Twilight, and Bewitched. I used to beg to stay up past my beditme to see Bewitched! If you loved Elizabeth Montgomery in as much as I did, this show if for you!
BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE is sponsored by Ulster Savings Bank.
Bell, Book and Candle was written by John Van Druten and is directed by Kevin Barnes.
The cast features Chelsea Petito, Alex Taylor, Dylan Parkin, Christine Bexley, and Paul Coleman. Director Kevin Barnes says, “I'm very excited and honored to be directing this particular show for County Players as it has special significance for me, not only as the opening play of our 60th season, but also the first show County Players ever produced. Our cast and crew have been putting in a tremendous effort to make this show truly ‘magical.’” We couldn’t agree more!
