June 2018

MKV message: Our hearty congratulations again to the winners of the 2018 Dutchess Tourism Awards of Distinction. Three finalists in seven categories were highlighted at a breakfast at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library & Museum, where the winners were announced.

This marked National Travel Rally Day, part of National Tourism week, May 6–12, 2018. More than 4.75 million people visit Dutchess annually, spending more than half a billion dollars on lodging, dining, shopping, attractions and transportation. This generated $40.9 million in local taxes and $31.7 million for New York State. 2016 tourism spending here increased 7.6% over 2015 to more than $568 million! Tourism is New York’s 4th largest industry, employing 10,484 people in Dutchess.

Vinyl - and Tap - Room Opens in Wappingers

Look over there, in the Village of Wappingers Falls. Is it a record store? Tap room? Stop by The Vinyl Room, the shop that puts them both together! You’ll say, “Why didn’t anyone think of doing this sooner?”  Dig through their far-reaching record collection while quaffing a craft beer or cider. Some nights you can enjoy live music paired with a NYS wine. It’s not a restaurant, but if you’re hungry, they sell fresh pizza by the slice or pie. Pop the sun-popped popcorn, locally made by Bjorn Quorn.
