Top 10 Places to Cool Off

Summer in Dutchess can get sweltering, with temps reaching into the 90s and humidity off the charts. During these times, there's nothing you want more than to cool off at the nearest watering hole or swimming pool. We've got you covered! Check out these Top 10 Places to Cool Off:

1. Splashdown Beach, Fishkill 

America’s Biggest Little Water Park is right here in Dutchess County! With rides including the Monster Wave Pool, The Megalodon and Croc Creek Wavy Lazy River, there’s something for kids of all ages. Purchase park tickets or even opt for a private cabana. It’s the perfect place to cool off and keep the kids occupied for hours. Get more info here.   

2. River Pool at Beacon, Beacon

This small, unique pool is partially submerged in the Hudson River, allowing the river waters to flow through it for a safe swimming and wading area. A ramp from the rivers’ shore leads swimmers to the pool. Floatation and seats line the pool’s perimeter for spectacular river views. The pool is set to be installed for the season the weekend of June 26th and 27th, and ready for use starting early July to Labor Day. Check back for the latest information here. 3. Bowdoin Park Splash Pad, Wappingers Falls 

This picturesque 301-acre park provides scenic Hudson River views and is the perfect place to entertain kids in the summertime. The playground features a seasonal splash pad, where children can keep cool as they run through water streams! Pack a picnic and enjoy shaded pavillion areas, walking trails, athletic fields and more. Click for more information.

4. Taconic State Park, Rudd Pond Area, Millerton

Live for the weekends and enjoy splashing around at Taconic State Park through Labor Day! Vehicle entrance fee is $7. Explore 225-country acres featuring a sandy beach and clear water swimming with boat rentals, children’s play area, flush toilets, picnic tables, fishing, and forest land. 5. Beekman Recreation Park, Hopewell Junction 

Part of the Beekman Recreation Park, this swimming area features two sand beaches and a deep water area. The park itself boasts two playgrounds, swings, a sand volleyball court, 18-hole mini golf course, horseshoe pits, BBQ grills, a pavilion with restrooms and changing rooms, picnic tables and a snack shack. 6. Lakeside Park, Pawling 

This 280-acre park in Pawling is made for an all-day family outing. Enjoy a picnic and nature walk, and on hot summer days enjoy boating or a swim in the lake. Lakeside Park has picnic tables, shelters and pavilions. Non-Pawling resident admission is $10 for an individual or $15 per family. More info.

7. Sylvan Lake Beach Park, Hopewell Junction

 If you want to get away for it all for a night or two, this lakeside beach offers clear, spring-fed swimming to those who camp here. Campers can enjoy swimming, fishing and playing along a 120-acre lake. Camping reservations are required. More info can be found on the site here

8. Pine Plains Beach, Pine Plains

The quaint town of Pine Plains is home to Stissing Lake Park. The park has its own beach, perfect for summer relaxation. Learn more and see beach rules and regulations here

9. Tymor Park Pool, Union Vale 

A beautiful place to spend the day enjoying miles of walking trails, playground and cooling off in the pool! Starting Monday, June 28th pool will be open full-time, meaning weekdays from 12-6pm and weekends from 11am-6pm through Aeptember 6th. Admission for non-residents adults is $10, children ages 11-18 is $5 and children 3-10 is $3. for the day. Cash only accepted at the pool gate. More info can be found here.

10. Spratt Park Pool, Poughkeepsie 

Another great pool in the city of Poughkeepsie is Spratt Park Pool! Opening date to be announced soon, so check back here. Daily passes for sale at the pool, cash only.
