The ArtEast May Studios Tour, formerly known as ArtmostNY Open Studio Tour, features a group of working artists who will open their studio doors for two very busy days in May, during which you can visit while they work. They want you to get a sense of their challenges in realizing their vision. It might be dirty, noisy and chaotic, but it will not be dull.
This event offers a rare opportunity to step inside the working studios of some of New York's most talented and innovative artists whose studios are right here in eastern Dutchess County. You'll have the opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions and learn about their techniques and inspirations. Each artist will be working on a project that will show you what its like to work in that medium.
14 studio stops spanning Dutchess County towns and villages from Hopewell Junction to Pawling, Amenia to Millbrook, will have something for everyone. Participating artists include Phyllis Chadwick, a mixed media artist whose work covers a broad array of inspirational pieces. And when youre visiting Phyllis studio, dont forget to stop into Greg Chadwicks studio. Gregs been a cabinetmaker for 40 years. He says its time to move his skill, knowledge and creativity of working with wood to a new level: combining different woods with epoxy resin as art.
Sculptors of stone, metal, fiber, clay and who-knows-what materials will be found in the studios of Brian Wohrman, Bob Madden, Karen Madden, David Tumblety, and Julian Strauss. And dont forget the photographers: Lonna Kelly, who just might show you camera obscura, a centuries-old technique that just has to be seen to appreciate. See painters working in every medium, including oil, acrylics and watercolor, used by plein air artists Daisy de Puthod and Tilly Strauss, abstract artists Michael Gellatly and John Colantuono and more.
