The Kane House Museum opens for the season on May 4 and will feature three exciting new exhibitions curated by the Pawling Historical Society this year.

• VR Washington Headquarters: Step into history with a virtual recreation of the Kane House as it appeared when George Washington used it as his headquarters from September to November 1778. This cutting-edge exhibit offers a glimpse into the past and highlights the strategic significance of Pawling during the Revolutionary War.

• Pawling: Then and Now: Experience an interactive update to the town photo gallery, featuring additions that showcase views of Pawling's past alongside present-day images. This exhibit provides a fascinating look at the town's evolution over time.

• All Aboard! 1848 The Train Comes to Pawling (opening later this summer): Explore the impact of the railroad's arrival in Pawling with this new interactive exhibit. Discover how the introduction of the train transformed finance, commerce, farming, and the development of vacation resorts in the area.

The Kane House is the Pawling Historical Society's main museum. From September through November of 1778, General Washington based his military movements in Pawling, and the home of John and Sybil Kane was one of the places he resided during this time. The Kane House will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. from May 4 through Nov. 2. (or by appointment year-round). Visitors can learn about the area's indigenous and European settlers; the Anti-Rent Rebellion of 1765; General Washington's use of Pawling; and the effect of the Revolutionary War upon the Pawling community.
