Join the Howland Public Library, the Howland Cultural Center and the Beacon Historical Society as the Howland Cultural Center celebrates 150 years of literature, arts and culture with its exhibition titled "People Make it Happen," which will be on display Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 25 (closed Sept. 24). The exhibition features the works of artists Donna Mikkelsen and Jean-Marc Superville Sovak. The Howland Cultural Center opened its doors in 1872 as the Howland Circulating Library, and when the Howland Public Library moved to its current home at 313 Main Street in 1976, the majestic building was transformed into the Howland Cultural Center and has been serving as the center for the arts in Beacon since 1979.

On Aug. 20 at 1 p.m., join Jean-Marc Superville Sovak and special guest Dr. Myra Beth Young Armstead, the author of "Freedom's Gardener: James F. Brown, Horticulture and the Hudson Valley in Antebellum America," for a free artist talk.
