Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum

It was the nation's first Presidential Library, and it was all FDR's idea to have his papers gathered in one final place. His desk remains just as it was in the Oval Office. The Library has great exhibits, both historic (The FIrst 100 Days, the Depression and WWII) and personal galleries for he and Eleanor. See his study, from whcih some of the fireside chats were broadcast, and Fala's belongings too. Check out his Ford Phaeton, equipped with hand controls so he could drive it around the estate!

The Wallace Visitors' Center next door enables all of the National Park Service sites in Hyde Park (Springwood, the Roosevelts' home; Val-Kill, the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site; Top Cottage, FDR's retreat; the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, and the FDR Presidential Library and Museum) to offer expanded services. See orientation exhibits and a film to welcome you to the "world of the Roosevelts." The more than 125,000 annual guests can buy tickets and receive directions to all sites at one location.

The Henry A. Wallace Center has multipurpose rooms for conferences, school groups and special programs; a cafe; state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities; an auditorium and th e New Deal museum-book store. Wallace was the vice-president in FDR's thrid term. The grounds are lovely, overlooking the Hudson River, just 90 miles north of NYC.
