Vassar College Film Series
The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College holds a weekly outdoor film series every Thursday evening from March 27 to June 5. The films shown exemplify brilliant works that span several decades.
The weekly outdoor films are shown on the campus lawn alongside the Art Center beginning at 7:30pm. The film series kicks off March 27 with a double feature, starting with Tod Browning’s “Freaks” and is followed by Buñuel’s famous surrealist piece, “Un Chien Andalou”. On April 3 see the French horror film “Eyes without a Face”, which tells a tale about a girl who loses half of her face in an accident. “Seconds”, screened on April 10, uses the body as a metaphor for capitalist commodities, exchangeable and disposable in the forward motion of the forward motion of the film’s sinister corporation. On April 17, catch Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Pumping Iron”, followed on April 24 by “Altered States”, the story of a scientist's obsession with discovering the meaning of life.
As the weather starts to warm up in May, you won’t want to miss out on this fun and free film series. This is a great way to spend a night without spending any money. On May 1 the series presents the sci-fi film “The Thing”, which experiments with the concept of aliens, followed by “The Fly” on May 8, which dabbles with the process of teleportation. On May 15, “Dead Ringers” tells the interesting tale of the life of twins, highlighting the difficulties along with the physical, emotional and psychological connections between the two. The famously strange film “Being John Malkovich” premieres on May 22. If you are more interested in horror films, don’t miss the showing of “Silence of the Lambs” on May 29. The film series concludes with “Talk to Her”, the film about two comatose women and the men that love them, and is shown on June 5.
The film nights are in conjunction with the museum's “Out of Shape” exhibition, along with its weekly “Late Night at the Lehman Loeb” program, which extends the museum hours every Thursday until 9pm. Admission to the museum and the film series is free of charge and a great new way to enjoy great art along with the outdoors. See
