The inaugural “I LOVE NY” Short Film Competition invites filmmakers to produce their own 60-second short film illustrating why they love New York. Publication Date: 23 Jun 2008 Ham Radio Operators Show off Emergency Communications at Community Day Thousands of Ham Radio operators nationwide show off their emergency capabilities Saturday and Sunday, June 28 & 29. The Field Day demo will be held during the Town of Poughkeepsie's annual Community Day festival at Bowdoin Park on Sheafe Road. Over the past year, ham radio operators provided critical communications in emergencies including the California wildfires, Oregon and Michigan storms, tornadoes and other international events. When trouble is brewing, ham radio people are often the first to provide critical information and communications. Publication Date: 23 Jun 2008 Writers Reading From Their Work Maple Grove is hosting a series called “Words, Words, Words,” which features Hudson Valley authors reading from their works. The events are open to the public and are held from 3-5pm in the first floor rooms of Maple Grove. Lemonade will be served on the porch after the readings, and copies of the authors’ books will be available for purchase. These events are free, but a donation towards the Maple Grove Restoration fund is appreciated. Publication Date: 20 Jun 2008 It’s that time of year again! Crafts at Rhinebeck fills the Dutchess County Fairgrounds with arts and crafts on June 21st and 22nd. The lovely, landscaped Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck are the site for the Northeast’s premier arts and crafts show. For more than 30 years, the juried show has attracted only the finest artists and craftspeople nationwide. Thanks to Cole Palen’s Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, take flight in a biplane, in addition to visiting the aviation museum and watching the spectacular air shows. Open cockpit biplane rides are scheduled by appointment, and are $65 per person. Antique automobile rides around the grounds are now offered as well during weekend shows. The new trail easement was donated by The Anderson Center for Autism and opened in early November. This new walkway establishes a trail for public use along the Hudson River, linking the Vanderbilt National Historic Site to Norrie Point State Park. On top of this, the pathway grants 2,400 feet of new trail access through school property. In addition to opening private gardens to the public, they've changed their method of printing the Open Days Program for the upcoming season. The new printing process includes the use of Forest Stewardship Council-certified paper, vegetable dye-based inks, and 100% wind power.
