How far is Dutchess County from New York City?

Dutchess County, bordering the magnificent Hudson River, is located just 75 miles north of New York City and is easily accessible by train, bus, car or helicopter. For directions see our map and drive section.

Can I have my wedding at one of the historic mansions? (top of page)

Although many of the Dutchess County Historic sites do not allow wedding ceremonies inside the mansions, some will, for a fee, assist with outdoor weddings on the grounds or having photographs taken. Check individual sites for details.

Where can I ride a bike in Dutchess County? (top of page)

Bike your way through the heart of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area via six historic and scenic tours. You’ll enjoy charming villages, rural hamlets and rolling meadows on your journey. Routes vary in length from 23 to 32 miles, with some shorter alternatives and segmented options.

What do I do if I have a medical emergency? (top of page)

Home to many fine medical facilities, Dutchess County currently employs the 911 system for emergencies.

Do your golf courses allow for advance tee times? (top of page)

Sixteen golf courses, including the oldest public course in the United States, will offer you some of your greatest challenges. A number of the courses will accept reserved tee-times up to seven days before you wish to play. Call in advance for details.

When is the best time to see the leaves change? (top of page)

Typically the Hudson Valley enjoys autumn end of September through the end of October, with the leaves most brilliant early to mid-October. Make your overnight reservations early - you’ll need more than one day to see it all!

There is no public transportation from the train station to Hyde Park, however taxis provide a direct, inexpensive ride.

Can I take a cruise on the Hudson River? (top of page)

A cruise on the majestic Hudson River is a great way to see the Hudson River Valley. Two cruise boats depart in the region: one from the dock in Newburgh and one from the dock in historic Kingston.

Are there any wineries in Dutchess County? (top of page)

The Dutchess Wine Trail features four wineries, where you can tour and taste a wide variety of award-winning wines produced locally. Many offer box lunches and activities that will keep you enjoying the scenery all day long.

Are there any bed and breakfast establishments right on the Hudson River?

Although there is only one bed and breakfast directly overlooking the Hudson, Dutchess County has more than fifty delightful bed & breakfasts’s to make your stay an enjoyable one.

Are there any gourmet restaurants in Dutchess County?

Dutchess County being the home of the Culinary Institute of America, we boast of many quality gourmet restaurants featuring CIA graduates. Whether you are in the middle of hunt country or exploring our historic mansions, you’ll definitely find a way to please your palate!
